The FW De Klerk Foundation has denounced US President Donald Trump’s claims that South Africa is promoting “racial discrimination,” “land grabs,” and the “genocide” of white people in the country.

This comes amid the controversial statesman executive order granting Afrikaners the opportunity to seek asylum in America.

SA President Cyril Ramaphosa and various political figures have accused organisations like AfriForum and individuals like Ernst Roets and Elon Musk of spreading “misinformation” about the country.

FW DE KLERK DISTANCES ITSELF FROM DONALD TRUMP’S ‘LIES’

Speaking to eNCA, FW De Klerk Foundation’s Executive Director Christo van der Rheede criticised Donald Trump and any South African or “right-wing fringe group” seeking to promote “misinformation” and “stir the pot” about the country.

He said: “There is no substantiation of any genocide, no substantiation about any white farmer’s land being confiscated. These are all lies. We are very worried that all farmers in South Africa are being used for cheap politics. That is a big concern.

“Us representing the Afrikaans community, we are very adamant that there is no such thing happening. We need to put that on record. There is an urgent need for our political leadership and parties in the GNU to step up to the plate and denounce these misinformation campaigns that are ruining our agricultural sector and undermining progress by the Afrikaans-speaking community.”

Rheede added that white South Africans should feel obligated to speak up against Trump.

He continued: “It is upon the shoulders of the Afrikaner community to say that all this misinformation must come to an end. Crime is affecting everyone, [so is] slow economic growth and corruption. We need to come together as a nation to address these issues. We will benefit from a South Africa that is progressing well.

The FW De Klerk organisation was founded in memory of Apartheid’s last president, who, along with the late Nelson Mandela and the ANC party, sought a peaceful transition to democracy.

The organisation now promotes and preserves the heritage of the late leader, that is, non-racialism and reconciliation. FW de Klerk died in 2021 following a short cancer battle. That year, a posthumous video of him apologising for his Apartheid atrocities was made public.

US PRESIDENT: ‘SOUTH AFRICA IS TERRIBLE’

In a post on his Truth Social platform, US President Donald Trump doubled down on his attack on South Africa. He also urged Afrikaners to begin the process of seeking asylum in America.

He posted: “South Africa is being terrible, plus, to long time Farmers in the country. They are confiscating their LAND and FARMS, and MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. A bad place to be right now, and we are stopping all Federal Funding.

Trump continued: “To go a step further, any Farmer (with family!) from South Africa, seeking to flee that country for reasons of safety, will be invited into the United States of America with a rapid pathway to Citizenship. This process will begin immediately!”
