After reports that 2019’s Durban July was in jeopardy, organisers said that everything is set to run smoothly during the event at the Greyville Racecourse this Saturday.

Yes, everything is set for what is believed to be Africa’s greatest horse racing event.

The Durban July is known not to be just a horse racing event, put an event where attendees and celebrities alike rub shoulders in their finest. This year’s theme includes ‘the stars of Africa’ where attendees are encouraged to dress up in their finest getups (there are even some fashion awards up for grabs!)

Attendees can also expect some spectacular entertainment: The Lakes Lifestyle Village returns to the Durban July Raceday for the second year running, following on from its success at last year’s event. The Lakes is a public area situated on the golf course with pop-up restaurants and bars and tote betting facilities.

The area is focused around the main event stage and will feature fashion, racing and entertainment throughout the day including a full line up of local artists and DJs along with activations from numerous sponsors on the day.

All about the race

According to the Durban July’s official website, while it is a day of excitement, fashion and entertainment, it is all about the finest thoroughbreds in the country coming together for the greatest challenge of their careers.

For the horses, the jockeys, the trainers, the owners and the grooms, it is the pinnacle of their racing experience just to be involved in the race and the debate about which of the many entries can lift the ultimate prize begins when the first entries are received with the intensity of the debate growing steadily to fever pitch as the big day approaches.
