South Africans are amused at a clip of comedian Trevor Noah speaking Xhosa to his group of friends.

The award-winning entertainer – who will be hosting his fifth consecutive Grammy Awards next month – recently vacationed in Cape Town.

Trevor was born in Soweto to a black Xhosa mom and a white Swiss father.

TREVOR NOAH SPEAKS XHOSA IN FUNNY CLIP

In a clip posted on TikTok by author Khanya Dlanga, his pal Trevor Noah is seen showing off his culinary skills.

The 41-year-old was praised for perfectly slicing a loaf of sourdough bread. However, a few didn’t believe that the bachelor was capable of such.

Speaking in Xhosa, Trevor replied, “Uyazbona Leza slice [you see that slice],” and his friends laughed.

He added: “Ndinjalo ke mntanam [that’s how I am, child].

In the comment section, fans of Trevor Noah were amused – and touched – by his ability to switch languages seamlessly.

“He probably missed speaking isiXhosa.”

“Hearing Trevor speak Xhosa is really beautiful.”

“He’s still got his Xhosa accent.”

REMEMBER THAT OSCARS AND GRAMMYS JOKE?

Trevor Noah is known for making jokes in Xhosa and about the Xhosa language in his various skits.

In 2019, the comedian had South Africans in stitches with an “inside joke.”

The then Daily Show host was talking about the Marvel superhero movie Black Panther as he presented the nominations for “Best Picture.”

Addressing the audience, Trevor joked that he knew Chadwick Boseman (who died a year later after a secret battle with cancer), who played main character T’Challa.

He said: “Growing up as a young boy in Wakanda, I would see T’Challa flying over our village. And he would remind me of a great Xhosa phrase: Abelungu abazi ubu ndiyaxoka.”

Trevor claimed the phrase meant: “In times like this, we are stronger when we fight together. Then when we try to fight apart.”

But the joke was actually on the world as Xhosa people immediately recognised their language. Despite his claims, Trevor actually said – with a straight face – “White people don’t know I’m lying.”

Fast forward to the Grammys 2022, and South Africans were were convinced that Trevor Noah said the Xhosa swear word “msunu” during a skit.
