‘No case’: Duduzile Zuma posts defiant message

Duduzile Zuma – the daughter of former South African president and MK Party leader Jacob Zuma – has shared a defiant Instagram post in the wake of her appearance at the Durban Magistrates Court.

The 42-year-old was charged with inciting violence over her 2021 X [formerly Twitter] posts about the nationwide July unrest.

She has since been released on a “warning.”

DUDUZILE ZUMA LAUGHS OFF CHARGES IN DEFIANT POST

On Thursday, 30 January, Duduzile Zuma appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court. The MK Party MP was accompanied by her brother Duduzane and their famous father, Jacob Zuma.

The outspoken daughter of the former president has been charged with inciting violence in the July unrest. This, after she called on 

In court, Duduzile was represented by EFF-turned-MK Party lawyer Dali Mpofu, who requested that she be released on bail.

However, the case was transferred to the Durban High Court, and Duduzile was released on a “warning.” She will appear in court again on 20 March.

In an Instagram post, Duduzile laughed off the charges and shared images of her smiling and laughing in the dock.

The mother-of-two thanked MK Party members for showing up to support her in court. 

She defiantly added: “They do not have a case here, this is just POLITICAL”.

Duduzile encouraged her supporters to attend the Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 1 February, where she would be making a guest appearance.

In 2021, Duduzile Zuma was accused of encouraging the July unrest, where properties and stores around the country were looted, vandalised, and torched. During the period, over 70 people are reported to have died in violent confrontations.

The daughter of the former president retweeted several videos of the violence, which was a direct reaction to her father’s incarceration on contempt-of-court charges shortly before.

Duduzile is charged with contravening the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act (POCDATARA)  and incitement to commit violence.
