CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT AFTER MISS UNIVERSE 2024

Outgoing Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua had the honour to crown the new Miss Universe 2024.

Chidimma Adetshina was the 1st runner-up of the 73rd edition of Miss Universe. She became the first Nigerian to place in the top five of the beauty pageant.

No doubt Chidimma Adetshina’s big win made her headlines back home in Nigeria. However, against her big win, she took to social media to reveal that she was also crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.

She posted, “Not Just the 1st runner-up of #MissUniverse2024 but Also Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.”

She often trends whenever she posts or gets posted, thanks to her huge following. The post has gained thousands of comments and reactions since it dropped online.

In her post, she thanked several Nigerian modelling organisations.

However, some fans were more than convinced that she was seemingly taking a swipe at South Africa when she reminded her followers that she was also crowned Miss Universe Africa.

MAKING HEADLINES

Chidimma Adetshina withdrew from the Miss SA after her participation in the pageant was questioned after she revealed she was born to a South African mother (Zulu) of Mozambican descent and a Nigerian father.

This became a national debate, which the Department of Home Affairs later settled. The department found prima facie evidence to believe that Chidimma Adetshina’s mother, a Mozambican, “may have committed fraud” in 2001.

After the finale, the Miss Universe’s Facebook page shared photos celebrating the winners, but one post has since thrust the organisers into the top trends.

Three of the four runners-up at the beauty pageant were posted and congratulated them. However, Chidimma Adetshina was not included in the post.

Miss Universe started with the second runner-up, with Chidimma not anywhere on the list. However, fans across the globe were quick to criticise the beauty pageant.

Fans questioned Chidimma Adetshina’s omission from the list, while others alleged that it was on purpose and unashamedly. One user asked, “Where is first runner-up Miss Universe?”
