Springbok Eben Etzebeth has jokingly denied threatening younger star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
In an interview on Behind The Ruck last week, the 23-year-old player claimed that the Boks most capped player had threatened to “break” him during a training session.
Eben is known for being one of the tallest and fiercest players in the national squad.
EBEN ETZEBETH DENIES THREATS TO SACHA FEINBERG-MNGOMEZULU
Speaking to Behind The Ruck co-hosts Rudy Paige and Juan de Jongh, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu was quizzed on being one of the youngest players in the Springboks and at his club at the Stormers.
When asked if he ever had an incident involving an older player, Sacha recounted a time when he received a “warning” from Eben Etzebeth, who previously played for the Stormers.
During one particular training session, Sacha explained that he had jumped up to catch a high ball.
He said: “Eben Etzebeth was in front of me, so I tried to beat him with my feet, go past him, and place the ball on the floor. As I placed it, he said: ‘Do that again, and I’ll break you'”.
Sacha stated that he sheepishly apologised to the veteran player afterwards.
However, Eben Etzebeth has jokingly denied the claims. Under an Instagram post of the clip, the 33-year-old posted a meme that read: “I don’t believe you.”
THREATS AGAINST SIYA KOLISI TOO?
It’s not the first time Eben Etzebeth has given a “friendly warning” to a fellow Springbok.
In a special segment honouring his historic 128th test match appearance last month, captain Siya Kolisi recounted how Eben had once told him off.
The incident occured when the duo went to watch a Liverpool vs Chelsea soccer match together. Siya, a die-hard Liverpool fan, made the mistake of cheering on his team whilst seated in enemy territory.
After getting some stern looks from spectators, Siya said of Eben: “I looked at you, like damn it, I’m also scared. You grabbed me and then said, ‘If you do that again, I’ll do something to you myself”.
ARE EBEN ETZEBETH’S WARNINGS JUST TYPICAL BOK BANTER?
