Seasoned radio host DJ Sbu – real name Sbusiso Leope- made a dramatic return to Radio 2000 barely a few days after he announced his resignation from the SABC station last week.

DJ SBU SBU RENEWS CONTRACT AT RADIO 2000

Last week, DJ Sbu pulled a shocker when he took to social media to announce news of his resignation from the station online.

Part of his press statement reads, “This serves to inform you that after much reflection and consideration, I have made the decision to resign as a morning radio host at Radio 2000, part of the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

“This decision comes earlier than the end of my contract, which was set to conclude on March 30, 2025.”

However, DJ Sbu also said he had a new breakfast gig on the cards.

“I am preparing for a brand new breakfast morning show that I am excited to launch on a different platform starting from April 1, 2025,” DJ Sbu said.

Surprisingly, a few days after confirming his resignation from Radio 2000, the star confirmed that he was no longer leaving the station. Instead, DJ Sbu said he would be with the station for another year.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter DJ Sbu posted, “I am pleased to let you know that I will be staying with @Radio2000_ZA, having concluded an agreement for another 12 months.

“Keep your ears tuned in to the big breakfast, weekdays 6-9 am.” Against the news, SABC has confirmed his new contract.

SABC spokesperson Mmoni Ngubane: “We can confirm that DJ Sbu is still with Radio 2000 and has signed a contract for 12 months.”

WORKING WITH SABC AGAIN

The celebrated radio host returned to radio in 2024 after being on the sidelines for a decade.

Many didn’t envision DJ Sbu’s return to SABC. After his dramatic Metro FM exit in 2015, DJ Sbu once vowed not to work with the public broadcaster.

Reports have it that he was shown the exit door after allegedly promoting his energy drink on the station.

REASONS BEHIND HIS EXIT

Undoubtedly, many have been trying to connect the dots about his exit and why he changed his mind. Despite leaving many convinced that he had received a new gig, the rumour mill says otherwise.

According to Sunday World, DJ Sbu resigned after he ‘misread a standard letter that the station Mandarins shared with him and all its staff.’

Rumour mill has it that the letter informed many that their contracts won’t be renewed but revealed.

COULD THIS BE THE REASON BEHIND HIS RESIGNATION?
