‘I’d never step down in a semifinal’: Proteas’ Bavuma defends captaincy, fans request replacement with Makram
Proteas Temba Bavuma defended his captaincy when he landed at OR Tambo Airport this weekend, fans request his replacement with Aiden Makram.
South Africans took to social media to respond to a Proteas captain Temba Bavuma interview, where he defended his captaincy after landing at OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday, 18 November.
BAVUMA: ‘WE BEAT TEAMS THAT HAVEN’T BEEN BEATEN’
The popular cricketer and Proteas captain Temba Bavuma admitted at a media briefing at OR Tambo International Airport that he wasn’t 100% when he played in the semifinals and defended his captaincy.
Bavuma added that he’d never consider stepping down at a semifinals game and he’s not someone to back out of a challenge.
“I am always there as a captain and the batsman. I always try separate the two. We won the most games in the group stages. We beat teams that haven’t been beaten in a while at World Cup. As a batsman, I wasn’t pulling my weight from that point of view.”
“For me to stepdown in a semifinal is strange. I am not someone that will answer to calls from people on Twitter or Facebook.”
Proteas fan @I_ndlovudadj tweeted: “Announce Makram as the new captain” after videos of the captain and coach Rob Walter trended on social media.
