IS THE SUPERCAR STREET-LEGAL?
Several supercars have made their way to South Africa in recent years, with McLaren among celebrities’ most desired supercars.
Surprisingly, 3GAR’s whip is one of the most coveted McLarens spotted in the country, but is it street-legal? According to reports, a few McLaren 570S coupes were made available for the market.
According to reports, the car’s top speed is 328 km/h. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reach 200km/h in 9.5 seconds.
The McLaren 570S Coupe’s maximum power is 570 PS (562 bhp), boasting a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
This is the same engine used on the sleek 650S and P1 GTR, which are ranked amongst the fastest McLarens ever made.
Surprisingly, the McLaren P1 GTR is designed strictly for the track. The publication noted that 3GAR’s McLaren is street-legal despite boasting several track features.
Several drivers have abused these outstanding specs, increasing high-speed accidents worldwide.
STRICT REGULATIONS TO CURB HIGH-SPEED ACCIDENTS
Several countries have implemented strict regulations regarding the driving of supercars, and many are convinced that South Africa should also consider similar regulations.
According to the Department of Infrastructure and Transport, South Australia, ‘all drivers of ultra-high-powered vehicles (UHPVs) must hold a U class licence to drive on South Australian roads.’
