Afrocentrism accusations: Kevin Hart’s Egypt show cancelled
Kevin Hart was booked to perform in Cairo but was later cancelled after he reportedly made controversial comments about Egyptian history.
American comedian Kevin Hart was set to perform at Cairo International stadium in Nasr City in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday, 21 February, as one of the stops on his Reality Check tour, but the show got cancelled following the comedian’s comments claiming ancient Egyptian kings were Black.
KEVIN HART’S SHOW COMMENT REGARDING EGYPTIAN HISTORY
The stand-up comedian reportedly shared his two cents about his beliefs about Egyptian history and the slavery era.
According to News Yahoo, Hart said,
“We must teach our children the true history of Black Africans when they were kings in Egypt and not just the era of slavery that is cemented by education in America. Do you remember the time when we were kings?”

THE EGPTIAN EVENT MANAGEMENT CANCEL THE COMEDIAN’S SHOW
In a statement released by an Egyptian management group, R Productions on Facebook, Hart’s show was cancelled due to “local logistical issues.” The event promoters pleaded with customers who had already booked their tickets to be patient with them as they worked to refund every person as soon as possible.
The statement read,
“It is with a heavy heart that we share with you, due to local logistical issues, the cancellation of our Kevin Hart event scheduled for February 21st in Cairo.”
“In the meantime, we are asking for your patience as we work with the TicketsMarché team to make sure that all the refunds are met in the shortest time possible,” the statement added.

WHAT WAS SAID TO HAVE BEEN THE PROBLEM WITH THE COMEDIAN’S STATEMENT?
According to Middle East Eye, Hart was criticised by the Arab world’s most populous country for promoting Afrocentrism. The movement’s mission is reportedly to improve “the role Black people played in history and the creation of western civilisation.
The movement was said to have accused Hart of “distorting history and robbing Arabs of their claim to the country’s ancient past’.
