‘Coloured aunty’: Doja Cat’s ‘new look’ trends [photos]
Who’s that girl? Doja Cat – the daughter of Dumisani Dlamini – appeared unrecognisable in her latest social media selfie…
Doja Cat – the daughter of South African singer and actor Dumisani Dlamini – has shown off another new look, and this one has social media hollering in amusement.
The US-born singer – whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini – is known for reinventing her looks.
DOJA CAT SHOWS OFF NEW LOOK
On her X account, Doja Cat showed off a new look.
And it was a far cry from her shaved head, diamante-studded brows, and unconventional wardrobe.
In the pic, the 29-year-old sported a blonde bob and a pair of spectacles. The bare-faced beauty showed off her beautiful smile and teeth.
In the comments section, fans were shocked at the quirky singer’s “normal” appearance, which was likely one using a filter.
@cat_falco: “Ready for the parent-teacher interview tonight!”
@sarkar19702: “Doris J Catson”
@RegularJayC: “Doja got that sexy HR vibe going.”
@honey_c17: “This is a South African colored aunty.”
WHO ARE HER PARENTS?
Doja Cat was born in 1995 to the Durban actor and muso Dumisani Dlamini and his then-partner, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer.
Dumisani – known for his roles in Sarafina and Yizo Yizo – left the US to return home. Doja has yet to visit South Africa. It’s unclear if Doja has ever met Dumisani.
In a 2020 interview with Metro FM, Dumisani Dlamini claimed he had, in fact, attempted to reach out to Doja Cat. However, his efforts were allegedly halted by the singer’s management.
“They don’t want me to connect with her. I have tried to send her messages on social media,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to connecting with her because, as a Zulu girl, she needs to come and meet with her ancestors.”
In 2021, Dumisani spoke to Mzansi Magic about his belief that Doja Cat would visit South Africa.
Speaking of his Grammy-winning child, he said: “She’s my daughter. It just blew up now as if there was something wrong. People are changing stories.”
He added, “We don’t want to dwell [on the past]. One day, she will come home, and everyone will see her.”
Dumisani insisted he was proud of Doja “even before she became a superstar.”
‘I NEVER MET HIM’
In a 2019 interview with Leah Henry and DJ Quicksilva, Doja Cat opened up about not knowing her father.
She said: “I have never [met him], and he’s on Instagram. And he comments on my pictures sometimes. He’s an incredible dancer and great actor, but yeah, I don’t know him very well”.
