‘I shtole the cookie jar’: Concern for slurring Matthew Perry on ‘Friends’ promo
A ‘Friends: The Reunion’ interview saw Matthew Perry slur his words, raising concern for the 51-year-old actor’s health.
A clip showing Matthew Perry with an odd gaze and slurred speech was posted to People magazine’s website and YouTube on Wednesday to promote the HBO Max special, which was shot in April and will air on 27 May.
Perry played the role of Chandler in the legendary hit sitcom series Friends which aired for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. Chandler’s wit and sarcasm made him an instant fan favourite.
MATTHEW PERRY SLUR: CAUSE FOR CONCERN?
Following the first official trailer for the reunion special, Friends: The Reunion, that was released on 19 May, follow-up teasers were posted by People magazine.
After watching Perry respond to questions, fans expressed their concern for his health and well-being as he also seemed “distant” during the interview and when he did respond, his words were slurred.
The main cast members — Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow –were asked if they took anything from the Friends set as a souvenir and Perry explained how he took a cookie jar prop.
“I stole the cookie jar that had the clock on it,” said Perry.
While explaining, fans noticed that he struggled to mouth a few words, like “clock” and saying “shtole” instead of “stole.”
