Joost van der Westhuizen and Eben Etzebeth’s dad had a special mention in this teary Springboks video ahead of the Rugby World Cup.
Fans of the Springboks have been left with pride in their hearts and lumps in their throats after the national team shared a video of the road to the Rugby World Cup next month.
Members of South Africa’s team were captured sharing their motivation for playing in the tournament – and defending their title.
The video – produced by Supersport – comes just three weeks before the World Cup starts on 9 September.

SPRINGBOKS VIDEO HAS FANS IN THEIR FEELINGS
In the clip, members of the squad – including captain Siya Kolisi, Cheslin Kolbe, Kurt Arendse, and many others – reveal who is inspiring them to put on their best performance.
Many of the players mention their old coaches, communities, and even fans.

Franco Mostert then name-drops previous Boks legends like Chester Williams, James Small, and Joost van der Westhuizen, all of whom have tragically passed.
But things take an emotional turn when Makazole Mapimpi – who tragically lost his own family at a young age – claims the team is also playing for Eben Etzebeth’s dad, who recently died.

Meanwhile, the Springboks will get a shot at redemption as they take on New Zealand’s All Blacks on Friday, 25 August.
The World Cup warm-up match will take place in Twickenham at 8.30 pm SA time.
