Moon News: The WHALE MOON is happening this October

The Whale Moon is happening this October, with only three more days to wait until the night sky gets lit up by the exciting lunar event.

The moon is always beautiful to look at, and in some months, the lunar events are even more spectacular during full cycles or special events like supermoons. The Whale Moon is happening this October, with only three more days to wait until the night sky gets lit up by the exciting lunar event.

Here’s how and when to catch the next sky event, with dates for October and November to mark out on your calendar.

Full Moon: Three days to go!

The website Time and Date lists the next lunar phase (October) happening on the 28th of this month.

While it’s not a supermoon, there is still something very special about this lunar event to notice. Moons such as this don’t happen every month, and this month’s has its own name.

According to the Centre for Astronomical Heritage, the October month’s lunar event has been given the name of the Whale Moon.

In order to celebrate South Africa’s diversity, the Centre names each month of the year (and its lunar event) after something that reminds us of SA.

Look up at the sky in three days if you want to see the Whale in all her glory!

November’s Full Moon

According to Almanac.com, November’s lunar event will happen on the 27th.

If you’re wondering about what it’s called, November’s event is named the Milk Moon. According to the CAH, this is because milk has always been an important part of Southern Africa’s culture.

Milk can symbolise prosperity and good harvests. If your cows were able to produce enough milk, it means that they were some happy cows – and this is still looked upon as a good sign today.
