The man behind the Big Red Machine, Glenn Jacobs, admits that he was beset by nerves ahead of his debut, luckily he had his famous mask to hide his emotion.

“I was really nervous because this was my big break and also, this is Undertaker and Shawn Michaels so I didn’t want to mess it up”, Jacobs said.

Jacobs debuted in the then WWF in 1995, making his first TV appearance as Isaac Yankem DDS but the Kane persona made him a global superstar and touched the lives of millions.

In the documentary, the three-time WWE World Champion speaks about growing up in small-town Missouri, north of St. Louis where he kickstarted his athletic career playing football and basketball. After suffering a serious knee injury which ended his football career, Jacobs explains how WWE gave him the thrill of being a professional athlete again.

Beyond the ring

The programme promises a look beyond the fire and brimstone and chokeslams as Jacobs shares an emotional story about a young fan’s last moments.

“A few years ago I was going to a concert in Oxville and this lady came running up to me with her daughter, she wanted to show me a picture on her phone of me and her son. I had made a visit to a children’s hospital recently and that was the picture. She told me that was the last picture she had taken of her son and it was with me. She wanted to thank me for doing that,” he said.

“The greatest blessing my career gave me wasn’t the fame and money, it was the fact that you have the ability to at least in some little way bring joy to people and touch them emotionally, and that’s incredibly powerful.”
