Kaizer Chiefs sign Mario Booysen on a two-year deal

Kaizer Chiefs announced their second signing of the day late on Wednesday afternoon, this time in the form of defender Mario Booysen, who joined the club from the recently-relegated Ajax Cape Town.

The Soweto giants had earlier unveiled Bafana forward Lebogang Manyama who signed as a free agent after he was released by Turkish outfit Konyaspoor earlier in the year.

Their latest signing, Booysen joins on a two-year deal with an option to extend his contract by another year.

Who is Mario Booysen?

The 30-year-old had spent a season at the Urban Warriors after joining from Mamelodi Sundowns on a swap deal which saw Rivaldo Coetzee move the other way.

“If you set yourself goals, you aim for the best and Chiefs are just that. It’s been a lifelong aspiration to play for this club as I have always felt that Kaizer Chiefs are far ahead of all other South African clubs,” he is quoted by the Kaizer Chiefs website.

A well-travelled man, the defender has had stints in various clubs, Maritzburg United, Supersport United and Bloemfontein Celtic.

“Everybody can expect me to give 100% commitment to Amakhosi,”Booysen continued

“The club offers me a fresh challenge and I want to add value. I am definitely looking at winning trophies, making the club and supporters proud. I want to make a real contribution to the legacy of this great club.”
