Culprit escapes punishment for cheap shot on Springbok
It’s been confirmed that there’ll be no further action taken against the player who deliberately inflicted a cheekbone fracture of a Springbok and Stormers ace.
The name of the player who inflicted a cheekbone fracture on Springbok and Stormers ace Evan Roos was notably absent from the list of players cited for foul play this past weekend.
When the European Professional Club Rugby chiefs revealed their list of players cited for a varying degree of foul play indiscretions throughout round four action in the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup this past weekend, the name Feleti Kaitu’u was glaringly absent.
Kaitu’u is the Racing 92 hooker hit Springbok and Stormers ace Evan Roos in the face, which led him suffering a fractured cheekbone.
The 25-year-old Springbok was hit when he was brought down by prop Thomas Laclayat after a strong ball carry.
Australian expat Kaitu’u (hooker) then charged into the ruck area from the side with a stiff arm and caught Roos on the side of his head and face area.
Kaitu’u escaped immediately sanction by the match officials – those on the field and the TMO – and it has now by confirmed by the EPCR that the incident also warrant no further investigation and thus no punishment for the perpetrator.
SA TEAMS CRASH OUT OF CHAMPIONS CUP
The Springboks may be the No 1 team in the world, but South Africa’s domestic sides have endured some mixed results when it comes to the competitions in the northern hemisphere that they’re now involved in, particularly the Champions Cup.
Although there has been success in the URC, the Champions Cup has proved to be a difficult prospect, presenting travel and game management challenges that have not been easy to overcome.
On Sunday, this season’s last South African hope, the Sharks, were knocked out of the Champions Cup after suffering a humiliating 66-12 defeat against the Bordeaux-Begles.
