N3 at Van Reenen Pass open to traffic following multi-vehicle crash
The Johannesburg and Durban bound lanes on the N3 at Van Reenen Pass were obstructed following an accident.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has confirmed that the traffic congestion on the N3 at Van Reenen Pass has been cleared.
Earlier on Thursday, 19 December, there was a multiple-vehicle crash in the area. A truck jackknifed, causing an accident and delays.
N3 AT VAN REENEN PASS OPEN TO TRAFFIC
Following the multi-vehicle crash, the Durban bound and Johannesburg bound lanes were obstructed, but, the two lanes have been cleared now.
The KZN Department of Transport has urged motorists to exercise caution as it is raining in most parts of the province.
Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rain with possible flooding in five provinces including KwaZulu-Natal.
The warning is valid on Thursday, 19 December.
The weather service said disruptive rain leading to flooding of roads and settlements, damage to infrastructure and displacement of affected communities is expected in Gauteng, central and western parts of Limpopo, the escarpment and highveld of Mpumalanga, eastern parts of Free State as well as KwaZulu-Natal, except in the extreme southern and eastern parts.
TRUCK DRIVER KILLED IN MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH
On Friday night, 13 December, a Zimbabwean truck driver died after he crashed into 11 vehicles at the Marianhill Toll Plaza on the notorious N3 in Durban.
Following the incident, motorists were urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes and to delay any trip leading to Marrianhill Toll Plaza.
The KZN Department of Transport said a heavy motor vehicle from Zimbabwe collided into six trucks and five light motor vehicles.
The truck driver who was trapped eventually succumbed to his injuries.
