According to the latest data from GlobalStats Statcounter, Facebook is by some distance the most popular social media platform in South Africa.

For the period December 2022 to December 2023, Facebook enjoyed a market share of 68.35% in Mzansi.
Pinterest came in second with 12.74%, while Instagram was third with 9.74%.

Despite being the second most popular platform in March last year with 9.79%, the Elon Musk-owned X, formerly Twitter, dropped to fourth in the rankings with a market share of 5.13%.

YouTube (2.69%), LinkedIn (0.56%) and Tumblr (0.34%) completed the rankings, as below:
