Top seven A-listers who visited the motherland in 2022 [watch]
US stars and British celebrities took interest in South Africa this year. Idris Elba, Kelly Rowland, Khelani , Tom Cruise, Gabriella Union and Dwayne Wade are some of the biggest celebrities that pulled through.
The South African takes throwback look at top international celebrities who graced Mzansi with their presence this year.
“S.A, A.K.A 2ND HOME”: KELLY ROWLAND
The American singer visited her ‘2nd home’ earlier in December for the Brutal Fruit You Belong Campaign. She attended a press conference at the Leonardo Hotel in Johannesburg and stayed in the country for a week.
She rubbed shoulders with some of Mzansi’s hottest celebrities such as Thando Thabethe and Refilwe Modiselle. A video of Rowland meeting Pearl Thusi’s daughter Thando Mokoena trended on socials leaving netizens envious of the teenager. Mokoena was later invited to join Rowland and her friends for Sunday lunch.
On 10 December the singer wrote on Twitter,
“S.A, A.K.A 2nd Home.”
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: TOM CRUISE WAS IN SOUTH AFRICA
On 6 December a picture of Tom Cruise at Killarney Country Club in Johannesburg wowed social media users. According to News24, the award-winning actor was in the country filming last shots of the Mission Impossible franchise latest movie sequel.

The British actor came to Mzansi to film the movie Beast. According to Times Live, Elba did an interview on 947 with radio presenter Anele Mdoda where he promoted the movie and said,
It was important for us to take the film to where this actually happens, so people could understand the logistics of what’s going on. How isolating it is for not just this family, but for a rogue lion to be split from its pride…” the report quoted him as saying.

TOUCH DOWN CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA: KHELANI
According to the report, the Grammy Award nominee attended the Rocking The Daises Festival in Johannesburg. The three-day event festival started on 8 October. Taking to her Instagram on 7 October the singer-songwriter marked her location on her post to announce that she was in Cape Town. In captioning the post she wrote,

“SO, SO SMOOTH BROTHER”: CRAIG DAVID
The British R&B singer visited Mzansi and performed at the GrandWest Arena. Doing an interview with Katlego Maboe on Expresso Show, David was blown away by the presenter’s performance of David’s 2002 hit-song Rise and Fall.
“Your tone is so, so smooth brother. Like seriously, I love it,” the legendary R&B singer said to the SABC3 presenter.

#WADEWORLDTOUR2022: GABRIELLA UNION AND DWAYNE WADE
The actress and her retired basketball player husband made a stop at the motherland to celebrate Union’s 50th birthday. The Breaking In actress posted that the her and her baby daddy were on what they referred to as the #WadeWorldTour2022, and South Africa was one of the stop on the itinerary.
A video of the couple dancing the night away at a popular scene in Soweto had social media buzzing. But what had caught netizens interest was Unions love for the Kasi wings at Konka.
